During the early 1990’s, many of the original Patpong beer bars sold to retail outlets, providing items such as leather “designer” handbags, and clothing.

Some of the smaller “shop house” beer bars joined with their neighbours so there became fewer but larger bars.

The most popular style of entertainment is probably the “Go-Go” bars, which predominate even today.

Indeed, Patpong Road became so popular, that the family who owns it decided to close it off to vehicular traffic, and to allow street traders to set up stalls.

It was thought by many that this would see a decline in the entertainments offered in Patpong, but in fact the reverse was true.

Patpong 1 was joined by Patpong 2, and is still offering a vast selection of nightlife, along with a thriving street market.
