Guest houses have been a good alternative for backpackers more willingly than hotels. As a matter of fact, Khao San Road in Bangkok has been known as the area for guest houses because it’s the place where you can find nearly all of guest houses in Bangkok lined up from one street to another. This type of lodging are very common among passers-by who just need a few hours of sleep and can’t seem to find it reasonable to stay in the hotel due to practicality reasons. In fact, there are guest houses that can cater for their needs and just a few walks away from the airport. Other guest houses can be found close to tourist attractions, and public transportation such as the sky train.

There are some guest houses that are nonetheless as costly as some hotels due to facilities and equipment they provide. They are furnished with air-conditioning, TVs and DVDs, some may also include breakfast, and others might even offer contemporary facilities such as swimming pools. Average price of stay in a guest house is about 250 Baht, yet some may even go to as low as that amount but expect they are not that pleasant and certainly unequipped. Regular types of guest houses are usually tidy and equipped, and others may even have bars and restaurants as accompaniments to their guest houses.
